The Board. Where plumbers price the weird job.

The one you have not seen before, the code section that reads two ways, the number you are not sure is too low. Ask the crew. Free to read, free to join, and nobody here is selling your details to a lead company.

House rules

Short list, seriously enforced.

Trades only

This is a room for people who do the work. Homeowners looking for a DIY walkthrough will be pointed somewhere better, kindly.

Nobody is buying your leads

No lead brokers, no franchise recruiting, no “partnership opportunities.” Your contact details stay yours. This is run by the operator of this site, not a marketing company.

Numbers are welcome

Pricing talk is the most useful thing on a board like this. Post what you actually charge and what market you are in — that context is what makes it useful to somebody else.

Code answers get a jurisdiction

“That is not allowed” is almost never true everywhere. Say which code and which state you are in, and treat any answer as a pointer to verify locally, not as a ruling.

Do not troubleshoot gas over the internet

Gas odors, CO alarms and medical gas go to the utility, to 911, or to a properly credentialed person — not to a forum thread. We will close those.

Disagree with the work, not the person

Plenty of ways to do this trade right. If someone is doing something unsafe, say so plainly and say why. Leave it there.

Before you post

Bring these and you will get a real answer.

  • Where you are. Code, climate, water chemistry and what the market pays all change by region. A question without a location gets six contradictory answers.
  • What you are looking at. Pipe material, approximate age of the building, and what the fixture or appliance actually is. A photo beats three paragraphs.
  • What you already tried. Saves everyone the first four replies.
  • What kind of answer you want. A price sanity check, a code pointer, and a “how would you sequence this” are three different threads.
Pricing questions are the best use of this room. Run your own number first with the True Hourly Rate Calculator, then post it and ask whether it is out of line for your market. You will get a far more useful answer than “what should I charge?”
